Insomnia

There are two types of insomnia; type 1 which is not being able to fall asleep and type 2 which is after falling asleep, waking up after only a few hours and not being able to get back to sleep.

There are a lot of things you can do to try to fall off to sleep more easily, having alcohol is one, but then you will end up with type 2 insomnia as it only allows you to be asleep for a few hours, then you wake up and can’t get back to sleep. Firstly, you need to make sure your bed and pillow are comfortable and your room is a suitable temperature, not too warm or too cold. Now relax for at least an hour before bed with lights dimmed:

  • Have a soak in a nice warm bath
  • Read a fiction book
  • Watch a relaxing film wearing blue light blocking glasses
  • Listen to gentle music

It helps if you get ready for bed before you start your final relaxation so that you can just get into bed and go to sleep as cleaning your teeth and getting undressed disturbs your feeling of relaxation. It also helps to get regular going to bed and waking up times, so don’t have a lie in at weekends.

If you have tried all these things and still can’t sleep, then maybe it is time to try hypnotherapy. With hypnotherapy I will take you into a very relaxed state and then get your subconscious mind to identify why you are not sleeping well and then ask your subconscious mind to find a solution that will help you to get a good night’s sleep.
